Honestly, why do those who hate Rap actually hate it? I'm interested to hear why you dislike it so.

because it's not music.
it's people yelling about how much money they have and how much they love having sex.

actually that's not really true.
there's some rap that's nothing like that, and that's the rap i can listen to and sometimes enjoy.
but the stuff they play on the radio that everyone listens to is just crap and that's why i hate it.

I could say the same thing about Rock:

It's people screaming the same chorus about various dark and disturbing things and how their parents molested them!

Actually that's not true, there's some rock that's not really like that...

Basing your entire opinion of a genre and the culture it represents off the mainstream bullshit is just plain wrong. What ever happened to open-mindedness?

whoah ok all i did was share my opinion. sorry you don't agree with it but there's no need to go crazy like that.

there is some rap that is good but the rap that i hate is the mainstreem stuff and i explained why already so i won't repeat myself.

I used to hate Rap, until I actually took the time to listen to it.

Now apart from the vulgarity of some artist's, I enjoy rap every now and then.

Now what I don't get is why people think it is not music?!

If rap is not music, then heavy metal is not music...I have a brother who won't accept Rap as music, but it is...it has a beat, it has musical insturments in the background and it has someone talking fast to the beat and the music, whats is not musical about it?!

And most rap songs have a background to it, just take the bloody time to listen to some rap, and look into it.

i don't think rap is music.
but i have a kind of different definition of music to you.
i think music should have beat and notes and everything but it should also mean something.
i don't mean rap isn't literally music. it's just not MUSICAL music.

i also think heavy metal music isn't music if it doesn't mean anything.

Look into the background of most rap songs, and you will find a meaning behind it.

But, it does really rely on your definition of Music. My definition of music is: anything with a meaning behind it, and has musical sounds to go with it, is music.

heavy metal is music.
now sftu.

and i love rap/hip-hop.

sometimes people need to know music can be fun. and some artists do that.

also rap and hip-hop are two different things.

just like pop-punk and punk are two separate sub genres.

yeh well that's pretty much my definition.

the rap music i don't like is the mainstream rap music. that stuff has no meaning.
i've heard rap that's not mainstream and i actually like it. it's bareable because it has SOME meaning.
but you can't tell me that 50c or nelly have any meaning in their "music"

if you listen to 50's first hit album, he does talk about what he went through. he really was a drug dealer that had absolutely nothing and then got shot. he didn't lie about that. He's now an entrepreneur and in the new g-unit album he really does talk about the money he's gotten from his clothing line and record label.

NAS is another mainstream hip-hop artist who talks on real life.

He's really smart and political. he shows it through his music too.

Try Flipsyde, they are the best out of it all. And I hate 50c and Nelly.

Well, it's not long since I stopped listening to rap music, and believe me, and I mean believe me, you'll grow tired of it eventually. It sure sounds all good with all that beat and people talking fast and saying insults in funny accents while stating that they are doing drugs and all, but there is a point where people grow mature on the music they listen, and it happens to nearly everyone. You'll get into metal music, and after metal you'll get into rock, which is always the stop-sign for people. I'm currently listening to calm metal/calm rock music and I can tell you that I don't really miss Fifty Cent's porn clip videos or Tupac's accent. It's all a matter on how fast you grow up emotionally. Probably something might happen in life and you'll flip out of rap. *shrug*
Just sit back and enjoy the music you currently like, and don't listen to people that criticise it.

i enjoy metal and all types of rock already.
hell i was in several rock and metal bands.
I play guitar and drums.
there's a lot of other different music genre's and styles i like.

i also rap. for fun.

I find rap fun to listen to when i'm in a party mood or if i really just wanna dance.
it has nothing to do with maturing.

rap is entertainment. only idiot's don't see that. it's supposed to be fun for teh most part.

again though hip-hop is different.

This is funny. Just because you got tired of it, does not mean that others will...

I listen to rap maybe 5-10 times a day, other then that I listen to rock/pop, Celtic, New Age and Classical Music.

Oh, it wasn't hostile what I was saying, I was just proving a point. I actually enjoyed your post.

@Evil--So, rap gets boring because it's just people talking fast in funny accents? I'm assuming you just listen to what you occasionally hear on the radio, and what the news always propogates whenever it gets the chance.

Do you, by chance, know who Lupe Fiasco is? Or how about Common? Talib Kweli? Kanye West? All great lyricists.

The Roots, Mos Def, Atmosphere.

"Concious Hip-Hop", is what most of that is.
And it's good.

Rappers just write lyrics about a different lifestyle.
Jus cuz not everyone can understand it doesn't mean it's.. not real music.

Also. I like Eminem.

Its not MUSIC !!!! its more of a fad. It encourages violence and brainwashes innocent kids to think that carrying guns, doing drugs, and using unappropraite racist words is cool, and ok.

Pop music encourages girls to kiss other girls and like it.
Country music encourages people to damage their ex's cars, and chase people around with hunting rifles.
Rock music encourages violence, drugs, and degrades woman more than a lot of rap music.

It's really quite silly to refuse to admit it's music when it is.. music.

Spoiler:

Our songs are supposed to be the voice of our soul
Not bought and sold, not all controlled
Bring a little fire when the world get cold
Let me shed a few tears and to me you went gold
People need more freedom
Children need to hear more truth when ya'll teach em'
Damn I want to hear a plan from the dude preaching
Got new seeds with true needs and who's leading
I truly believe every word I've ever uttered on a drum break
Right or wrong, life go on but it wasn't nothing fake
I demand you start listening to the crowd
If not - we gon burn this bitch to the ground

Spoiler:
