did you do it?

I only did it for the last book, since I was bored. A lot of people think its stupid, but, I actually had a good time. I wasn't in front with all the people who were dressed up, but being around normal HP fans in line for about an hour and a half is really fun. We discussed theories, speculations, who out fav characters were and why, etc. etc.

It was at borders, so, I got to get some coffee, and, it was just all good fun. And I shun those who say its dumb when you could just go to a wal mart or target the next day and not wait in line. They have to realize waiting in line is almost all of the fun. now, my DH book has sentimental value, more so then any other of my books, well, maybe not my HBP.

I suppose in this thread discuss your experiences waiting on line for an HP book, and what you think about it.

I've gone to a few release parties, but we didn't wait in line the entire time. We got numbers at the door, and they we just hung out while we waited until midnight. I usually read books while I waited. It was a lot of fun!

I remember when HBP was released. I thought it was absurd that kids were lining up at night for a book. I figured that because they were so eager for this book,t hat it must be rubbish. I wondered what parent would take their child at midnight for a rubbish book.

Then... I read the books... and of course I found myself standing in line for DH. I would have done anything to get my hands on a copy of DH...

I only went to the DH release party... there were several huge lines. We received colored bracelets beforehand... the color depended on how early we showed up.... and stood in line with the other people with the same color bracelet. This system worked out well... my friend and I didn't need to stand in line right away. We wandered around, found some books to browse through, that sort of thing. Eventually we stood in line and had the best time ever! I met the coolest people there... boys and girls... a few of us started singing The Mysterious Ticking Noise and oh, it was just so much fun!

exactly how I was...

and people NEED to experience waiting in line before judging. You can't just ride by to see what its all about. Because then it'll just look like some idiots waiting for a book....

I think that system sounds crappy. There were like thousands of people at ours, and at midnight they started calling the numbers in sections. We had our numbers when we went in the door, so we didn't have to stand in line . . . pretty much at all. They they called like 1-50, and the people who had those numbers got in line to buy their books. Then they called the next batch of numbers. They were really fast, too. I was actually surprised. I was like 150, and I thought it was going to take for ever to get my book. I got we were on our way home by 12:20. It was amazingly organized.

I did, for DH. When I got there, you were givven a house acording to age (I got Hufflepuff) and then you did activities; we had HP trivia, costume contest, magic lessons, and face paint. But for this we were just in groups sitting off by the magizenes. At 11:50 they had the over all costume contest, and since I won the Huff contest, I had to go to the front of the store along with one person from each other house. I got second place (a girl dressed as Luna got first). but then it really sucked because we had to go to the very back of a very long line. The winner got a free copy of DH, her copy of DH, and she got to be first in line. It ended up being a fifteen minute wait, didn't take long at all. Then we found some people from my church, who I didn't even know liked HP. So, all in all, it was a lot of fun.

I waited in line for the second to the last one. The first one, I got as a present like five or six months after it was released in the U.S.. I dressed up for the release of the fourth to the last one.

I did, only for Half-Blood Prince. It wasn't a huge line or anything, but I had reserved a copy months before so I was one of the first ones to get it.
