It freaking pisses me off how people will celebrate fun celebrations like christmas and easter but always go on about how they don't follow the religion, don't belive in god and always go on about how stupid it is and stuff. It's annoying.

They shouldn't get the privlage to celebrate these celebrations if they're always going on about how stupid it is. I think that if your gunna go on about how its stupid and you dont belive in that crap, then you should not get the privlage to celebrate the special celebrations.

Celebrating that celebration and not being apart of that religeion is pushing it, but still okay. But going on about how crap the belifs are is just taking it too far.

This isn't meant to be rude or mean to anyone, I'm just getting my point accross. This was triggered by some idiots at school. And BTW I don't belong to a religion that celebrates chriismaas and easter.

most religions celebrate some sort of winter holiday. if a person isnt "religious" it doesnt mean they dont have some base belief. i am a witch, i celebrate yule. the christians celebrate christmas (which i dont understand because Jesus was born in the spring, but whatever), theres Chanukah, Kwaanza, Ramadan, etc

My favorite holiday is Christmas because of the atmosphere it creates. Everyone in my family, for one day, pretends we're all one big happy family and no arguments occur...And I'm not religious. To be honest, if I didn't get any presents on Christmas, I would not care one bit.

P.S. Don't tell my family I said that. Razz

It's because holidays have become commercialized. It's become more about receiving presents than the actual meaning and purpose behind the holidays themselves.

they chose it because of the roman holiday, the day of the sun. Basically decided to steal it's thunder and make they're Holiday on another to grab up the attention.

No lie.

well like people have said before almost all religions celebrate a form of christmas. my only spat on this is, if you are one of the people supporting for us not to say have a merry christmas on tv, then i think you shouldnt celebrate the holiday. maybe you should go and celebrate hanuka or sumthin, cuz if you dont support the WORD of the celebration, you shouldnt be celebrating it at all.

people who try to change and make it impossible to say it to the public shouldnt celebrate the holiday. ex we cant say merry christmas over tv, the people who made that possible shouldnt celebrate christmas at all.

Actually, I have a bigger problem with people who try to ban the term "Happy Holidays." I think people should be free to wish people greetings as they feel fit. And if someone feels offended, they can say so. But to actually ban a whole phrase seems ludircous to me.

on shows they can, but if its say like the news, it has to be happy holidays. well im not sure if it has to be, but if they say merry christmas, they will have a lot of people from a certain group hounding them. once it comes close to christmas this year watch news and stuff, they will never ever say merry christmas.

They do that because they choose to, not because they have to. It's easier than saying, "Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy Thanksgiving, Happy New Years" and any other holiday that occurs around that time. Why should everyone have to say Merry Christmas and not Happy Chanukah? I'm not saying they should have to, but whats wrong with someone wanting to say "Happy Holidays?" Why do you assume they say it beacuse they have to and not because they want to? Of course there are some groups who push for Happy Holidays over specific religions, but that is NO different than the people who push for only Merry Christmas. It's hypocritical.

you know how many debates i have seen on tv about that? a lot. its not about conveyance at all. they cant cuz its politically incorrect. they say oh the jews get offended and stuff. if its the 25th of december, we should say merry christmas not happy holidays. its just a eliminating god from everything is what it is.

They include the New Years in there, too. And if it's still Chanukah, then the date shouldn't matter. You are looking at it from only one side; your side. If you don't think it should matter to others what is said, then why should it matter to you?

ginny it bothers me bc my religion alone is being constantly expelled from things, other religions seem to have more rights than mine.

So.. you want to take away other people's rights so you can have more rights for your religion? You do realize you cited the Jews as being one of those people who complain, right? Are you seriously saying that the Jews have more rights than, say, any other religion in this country? Have you ever studied the history of relgions? Unless you are Muslim or Wiccan, there is no way that your religion "alone" is constantly being expelled more than any other religion in this country.

Christians recieve the least persecution in this day and age.
Its hardly fair to say you're losing rights, where's the proof? I don't see any religion losing rights. If anything, religion has stayed pretty consistently involved in society throughout history.

Christians had it bad in the roman times, but its not even close to that any more. Wink

and Crazyholygodyournameislong, people did respond to your post. Those holidays have now become a symbol of national togetherness and family more than about religion.
Very Happy

I really don't understand what your saying after you say it's okay for people to celebrate Christmas. From my point of view it seems like your venting out upon something you don't fully understand yourself.

I don't get it either. Christians keep complaining about how American Commercialism has hijacked christmas from Jesus. The thing is - christmas was never about Jesus. It was a pagan holiday. The only mention of christmas in the bible is a passage or two saying that the people who set up christmas trees and nail ornaments to them will be damned forever, because when it was written, pagans were the ones hanging christmas trees.

Pagans in Pre-christian Rome set up trees, hung holly wreaths, and had a huge feast on the Winter Solstace to celebrate the birth of Mithras - their god. Then Constantine came in, and in order to make it easier for the Pagans to convert to christianity, he basically invented a christian version of that pagan holiday and called it christmas. After all - who's gonna give up their religion if it means giving up the biggest holiday of the year?
